The counter mask is what we don’t easily see when a person begins to work with the mask, while we are observing him.

In theatre we also call the counter mask – sub text o the invisible gesture, but to be more exact, it would be best to call it the energy motor or primitive drive who’s terrain is a very subtle and a rich process of personal creativity.

This step requires a certain type of courage and personal commitment to be there.

The student has to be prepared to abandon his preconceived judgements  and his idea of what theatre and personal expression is. 

He needs to take the art of the mask by the horns with clear commitment.

When he does this, he can awake his unconscious soil, bringing to his surface the result of his past elements, in the form of artistic expression, through the tools of the clown, the tragic, the neutral and the comedy mask converting this into a flower full of poetic contradiction, of contrasting colours, and with an artistic energy that is vital and new.

When taking hold of the form of the mask and playing with it, without too much inner hesitation, se he can provoke his mystery and his story that he is hiding within himself.

And begin to show himself in his uniqueness that he actually is!
